For all of you J. K. Rowling fans out there, she is now writing a new adult book (minus the wizardry) set to release September 27, 2012.
Although I am a huge fan of her previous work, this one seems, well, lackluster. Check out the blurb for yourself:
When Barry Fairbrother dies in his early forties, the town of Pagford is left in shock.
Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.
Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity, and unexpected revelations?A big novel about a small town, The Casual Vacancy is J. K. Rowling’s first novel for adults. It is the work of a storyteller like no other.
So, are you going to be picking up this new Rowling book? I'm sure she has many die-hard fans chomping at the bit - but for this Wizard-loving lady, I'm thinking it's a leave. Thoughts?
I'm a die-hard J.K fan but that blurb just didn't do anything for me.
ReplyDeleteHeard, girl! Me either. I was so disappointed. :(
DeleteI feel the same way. The blurb just doesn't interest me that much. I can't see myself reading it. :( I'm also not a fan of the cover. It just seems so plain.
ReplyDeleteI feel you my friend. I mean, it's supposed to be a ballot on the cover but it just seems that much more blah to me. She is an amazing writer...but I would've expected a better presentation for sure.
